12 ROUNDS Review
April 2, 2009RamaNo Comments12 Rounds, John Cena

The worst action movie of the year has arrived ladies and gentleman and it’s sad to know that director Renny Harlin is on the brinnk of becoming as disastrous as Uwe Boll. Die Hard 2 was considered by many as one of the few great sequels out there so the question to director Harlin is ‘seriously, What happened with you?!’ 12 ROUNDS is… 12 Rounds of excruciating movie watching experience, we’re constantly bombarded by inconsistencies, action sequences that are done with halfhearted efforts, plain awful acting, cheesy lines or jokes that make you wanna kill yourself and a plot that’s an abomination to our intelligence. I’d rather see THE SPIRIT again instead of this, that’s how bad it is.
The story centers on a New Orleans police detective (Cena) whose girlfriend is kidnapped. Harris (“The Practice”) plays an FBI agent and Gillen is taking the kidnapper role.

John Cena, who looks like Matt Damon on steroid, (I’m sure he gets that a lot) should just stick with wrestling because clearly he doesn’t have what it takes to follow the footsteps of fellow former wrestler turned actor. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Cena doesn’t have the charm, the wit, the timing, and the intensity that comes with being an action star.. he either needs to take serious lessons from Jason Statham or just quit alltogether and save us the grief.
Cena’s performance in 12 ROUNDS is an embodiment of someone who has no idea what he’s doing. His character’s supposed to look distressed after a full day of one chaos after another and yet his facial expression shows confusion and inexperience like he’s trying too hard to memorize his lines in his head
I hate the story, don’t even get me started with how the screenwriters try to make it seem like Die Hard 3 where the character has to figure out clues and games from the twisted villain. What a rip-off! To make things worse, the movie’s got too many stories that don’t compliment each other, separate unnecessary stories that don’t make sense. Obviously they’re trying to inject some dosage of drama but two cops fighting, arguing about who’s got the biggest balls and can solve the case just don’t cut it.
12 ROUNDS got some of the worst action sequences you can think of. If I can sum it up in one description.. this movie’s got repeated shots of Cena’s foot hitting the gas pedal. I kid you not, somebody should count because it happens way too often for its own good. Only John Cena would be stupid enough to enter a burning building without a fireman’s hat.
Director Renny Harlin comes up with the stupidest ideas.. why have Cena jumping on top of a moving tram at all when the attempt wouldn’t make any difference.
The challenges of the game aren’t difficult enough.. Cena gets away from each obstacles way too easy. 12 ROUNDS got no brains and no brawns
