2009 Was The Year Of Liar-Liar

Thou shalt Lie! A number of movies this past year carried a certain similar theme. One way or another, they were all about lying. Whether it’s to get what they want, to bury the past, or to fix relationships, lies tend to give birth to more lies and then some more and nothing good comes out of telling lies, it doesn’t matter if you try to wrap ‘em up with good intentions. Here I’ll give you a few examples, but heads up, the following contains SERIOUS SPOILERS! But if you don’t care, then check ‘em all out after this jump…

THE INFORMANT – Mark (Damon) keeps lying and lying and lying through his teeth to get what he wants even when people don’t fall for his lies anymore

WORLD’S GREATEST DAD – Lance (Williams) lies about how his son died just so he can finally get the recognition and respect he thinks he deserves.

NINE – Lie for Italian, Guido (Day-Lewis)

ORPHAN - Esther (Fuhrman) is not way, way older than she looks and she kills and lies along the way.

CRAZY HEART – Bad Blake (Bridges) promises Jean (Gyllenhaal) that he won’t drink in front of her son but he can’t help it.

EVERYBODY’S FINE – Frank’s (De Niro) kids all are telling him that they’re fine when in fact they’re far from fine.

GENTLEMEN BRONCOS – Chevalier (Clement) lies about how he got the inspiration for his new book.

A PERFECT GETAWAY – One of the couples aren’t really who they say they are

FANTASTIC Mr. FOX - Mr. Fox says he won’t hunt anymore after settling down with Mrs. Fox but he secretly continues to do what he does best

THE STEPFATHER - David (Walsh) lies about his identity.. all of his identities.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE – Max (Records) isn’t really a king.

THE INVENTION OF LYING – When everybody tells only the truth, Mark (Gervais) discovers the power of lying… and the mess that comes with it.

LOVE HAPPENS – The way that Burke’s (Eckhart) died isn’t the same as how Burke tells it in his book.

HANNAH MONTANA THE MOVIE – Again, it’s Miley and her secret alter ego.
