Alan Tudyk Explains His Role In ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

August 9, 2011Rama2 Comments,

Fans would recognize Alan Tudyk for his role as Serenity’s pilot, as the naked freaked out dude in Death At A Funeral and probably the only decent comic relief in Transformers: Dark Of The Moon. But most of us would agree that his funniest role is Steve the Pirate in Dodgeball movie. I met him at Comic-Con, that’s a picture of him and I right there, so I figured that photo is appropriate for the following info.
Shocktilyoudrop had a chat with Tudyk who’s promoting the upcoming TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL, a horror/comedy which I genuinely enjoyed, and Tudyk describes exactly what his role is in one of my most anticipated adaptations next year, the Timur Bekmambetov-directed ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER..

“I’m Abe Lincoln’s political foil,”
“Historically, Stephen Douglas was initially engaged to Mary Todd, who became Abe’s wife. They were fellow Senators and they battled it out for the presidency. Stephen Douglas was a flip flopper. He started out his career being opposed to slavery, then he married someone with a plantation and saw all of the money coming in – it was then politically expedient to be pro-slavery… Whenever there’s a political statement to be made, Stephen wanders into the movie to represent the other side. Also, historically, Stephen Douglas worked closely with vampires to realize his political ambitions. Working with Rufus Sewell, the big baddie vampire, was great. So was Ben Walker, who plays Abe.”

Based on the twisted book by author Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride And Prejudice And Zombies), who also wrote the script. The “book is written as a biography of Abraham Lincoln, based on “secret diaries” kept by the 16th President and given to the author by a vampire named Henry Sturges who taught him how to hunt and kill vampires.
The 16th U.S. President will be played by Benjamin Walker
Anthony Mackie will play Lincoln’s best friend, Will
Dominic Cooper will play Henry, a good vampire who mentors young Lincoln about slaying the undead
Mary Elizabeth-Winstead plays Mary Todd
Jimmi Simpson plays Josh Speed, Lincoln’s personal assistant and close friend.
Alan Tudyk plays Stephen Douglas, ally of the Southern Vampires
Rufus Sewell is the vampire villain
The adaptation is directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) and produced by Tim Burton, they teamed up previously on 9.

20th Century Fox will release ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER In 3D on June 22nd, 2012

Here’s the official synopsis of  the book

“Indiana, 1818 – Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother’s bedside. She’s been stricken with something the old-timers call “Milk Sickness.” “My baby boy…” she whispers before dying. Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother’s fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire. When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, “henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose…” Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House. While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years. Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true life story of our greatest president for the first time-all while revealing the hidden history be
