Let Me In

I hate to be the bearer of bad news so I don’t really know how to break this to you nicely, today is the day of mourning and lamentation because Overture Films has announced that principal photography for LET ME IN a remake of one of the best movies of 2008 Let The Right One In has started. I’m going to try to tell you what’s going on but I’ll be lying if I say I’m blogging this with excitement, because a heavy heart is more like it…

The story is about Owen, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Abby, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire. Kodi Smit-McPhee, who we can see in The Road this fall, will be playing Owen (Oskar in the original film) and Chloe Moretz, the chatty little sister in 500 Days of Summer and can be seen in the upcoming Kick-Ass, will be playing Abby (Eli in the original film) and Richard Jenkins has also joined the cast as the father/caretaker (Hakan in the original film)

3 more have joined the cast. Elias Koteas (Benjamin Button) plays the policeman, Cara Buono (TV’s The Sopranos) plays Owen’s mother and Sasha Barrese (The Hangover) plays Virginia.
Filming will take place in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This English speaking remake is expected to open in theaters on January 15th, 2010
Here’s the worst part, directed by Matt Reeves, the dude who brought us Cloverfield. O the agony. Times like this is when I’d somewhat wish the end of the world would come already so none of us would have to watch this version at all.
They say that while the new film will pay respect to the original Swedish version, they intend to forge a unique identity for LET ME IN, placing it firmly in an American context.

But here’s what I say to you,.. watch Let The Right One In as soon as you can… before this LET ME IN hits theaters because once you’ve watched the great Swedish masterpiece, brilliantly directed by Tomas Alfredson, based on the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, then whatever crapola changes Matt Reeves will do the story, you can easily erase that from your memory afterward because you’ve already seen the better version prior to that.

The teaser poster below is from LET ME IN‘s official facebook page
