And The Director Of The 4th BOURNE Movie Is Tony Gilroy

Universal Pictures has found the director of the next BOURNE movie and it’s the same guy who penned the adaptation of Robert Ludlum‘s novels The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, and was assigned to write this fourth installment as well, none other than filmmaker Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton, Duplicity)..

Deadline says Gilroy is locking a deal in with Universal but that one significant problem still remains. We’ve heard a few times before that Matt Damon wouldn’t do another one unless Paul Greengrass was involved so at this point, no confirmation yet if Damon will reprise his most iconic role, Jason Bourne. But at least Universal’s keeping it in the family, Gilroy is one of the people who knows this franchise by heart, perhaps that reason alone could motivate Damon to change his stand.
What stinks about this is that the website said Universal is pretty determinant to make this happen so much so that they would consider recasting Damon if had to come down to that.
I don’t think Damon would be stupid enough to let such a bankable project go. I admire actors’ loyalty to filmmakers but he needs to keep the fans in mind as well. After three freakin’ movies, it would be completely awkward to see some other actor playing Jason Bourne.
The working title is THE BOURNE LEGACY. The book with that title does exist, written by author Eric Lustabader inspired by characters and series created by the late Robert Ludlum but the book will not be the basis for this fourth installment.. so this one’s going to be an original work
