Bad Lieutenant

The domestic theatrical trailer for BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS has hit the web via Yahoo, you can watch it using the media player below. It’s not as funny as the previous promo trailer because it’s toned down and more suggestive, I didn’t get to watch the movie when it hit festival circuit but Nicolas Cage acting over the top crazy seems Cage’s talent put to good use. This might be his craziest, most unpredictable, borderline scary character since Face/Off
For the record, I think it’s sad that this trailer chooses to recognize Xibit but ignores Val Kilmer. That’s cold!

In Werner Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, Nicolas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs — while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves (played by Eva Mendes). Together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, and conscience. The result is a singular masterpiece of filmmaking: equally sad and manically humorous.

BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS opens November 20, 2009 (NY, LA; expands: Dec. 4)
