BOB MARLEY Biopic… Let’s Get Together And Feel All Right!

“One Love, One Heart, Let’s get together and feel all right”. Ya mon! I’ve heard of different talks and plans of bringing BOB MARLEY to the big screen, and now, one might just be happening. According to Deadline, director Jenny Ash (Emmy-nominated for America-The Story of Us), is developing BOB MALREY biopic that will focus on Marley’s time in London in 1977…

A lot of things happened to Marley in 1977.. he fled Jamaica after an attempt on his life, he sustained Soccer injury which eventually gave way to cancer, he hung out with Sex Pistols, it was the year of Rainbow Theater gig, and the story will also focus on the love triangle between him, his wife Rita Marley and Jamaican beauty queen/Miss world Cindy Breakspeare.
That’s so much drama in one year, great ingredients for a biopic.

But there’s an obstacle, the filmmakers don’t have the rights to the song yet. If you recalled two years ago, TWC optioned the rights to the book “No Woman No Cry: Me and Bob Marley” written by the reggae star’s widow Rita who bore four children for Bob Marley
Seeing that Ash’s version will also tackle Marley’s affair with Breakspeare, who knows if Rita would be kind enough to allow for such project to move forward.
