Cameron Says AT THE MOUNTAIN OF MADNESS Will Be An “Epically Scaled Horror Film”

I know by now you’re probably sick and tired of hearing James Cameron says this or James Cameron says that, the man keeps giving opinions even when nobody asks for it but there’s nothing much we can do, he is after all one of the most influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. In other words, he’s got the right to be ego-maniac. As you know, Cameron will produce the adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft‘s AT THE MOUNTAIN OF MADNESS with Guillermo Del Toro who’s also set to direct. The movie will be shot in 3D using FUSION 3D Cameras from PACE. They’ve fast tracked the project and it will start in the 2nd quarter of 2011. Cameron spoke to Wired recently and explained what you can anticipate..

“It’s going to be an epically scaled horror film and we haven’t seen anything like that in a really long time — I guess since Aliens.”
“The thing about Lovecraft is that he left a lot to the imagination,”
“He never told you what they looked like. He managed to create a sense of creeping horror without specifics.”

Cameron also thinks nobody else but Guillermo Del Toro could pull this job

“Guillermo brings an eye for design that is so original and so quirky and so steeped in the lore of movie design and horror design, but always fresh and unexpected. Frankly, I just want to see what he comes up with and I want to enable the nuts and bolts of the production so he doesn’t have to worry about that. I want to help him how to work in 3-D.”

Cameron’s going to help GDT how to work 3D..
Watch out, GDT! Give it a few years and if you make a movie that everybody likes without Cameron’s involvement, Cameron’s going to trashtalk it too like he did The Hurt Locker and Piranha 3D… either that or Cameron will somehow steal credit for the success anyway.

the book originally published in 1936 was about a group of explorers in Antartica who stumble onto a group of creatures called “Elder Things” and what comes after that is terror after terror.
