Chris Pine Will Have To Do STAR TREK 2 First Before JACK RYAN

I’m looking forward to Chris Pine as the new Jack Ryan, I think Pine is a fantastic actor who knows how to play his character effortlessly, I was very much impressed with his portrayal of young James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams‘ 2009 alternate universe prequel, Star Trek. But alas, Pine’s chance to be in the role previously played by Baldwin, Ford, and Affleck, will have to wait..

Deadline reported that as much Paramount wants the new JACK RYAN movie to happen so bad, due to script delay, they’ve decided to get Pine to do STAR TREK 2 first.
Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof are scripting, but Abrams is not officially set return to direct yet. Things are still moving forward, they expect production to start this fall so that it would still meet the June 29th, 2012 release date.

Last month, Oscar winning scribe Steve Zaillian who adapted 1994′s Clear and Present Danger was hired to rewrite the script but turns out, he changed his mind and withdrew.
Keep in mind that this is somewhat of a mix of prequel and reboot, it’s not based on any of Tom Clancy‘s novels. It’s an origin story by Hossein Amini and then Adam Cozad redrafted it using his elements from his spec script, DUBAI that was bought by Paramount and then Anthony Peckham was hired to rework it, and then Cozad was brought back again, at the time, the project was titled MOSCOW.  The story “has to do with a terrifying helicopter crash that nearly killed Ryan when he was a 23-year old platoon leader in the US Marines. He was the only member of the platoon to survive.”
Now that Zaillian didn’t want to have anything to do with it, studio is not going to have this project move forward until the script is ready. Problem is, the director attached to it, Jack Bender is in a deal where he could easily choose to walk during the delay if he wants to. So while Paramount is figuring this whole thing out, they figured let’s just get STAR TREK 2 to run its course first.
