Christina Ricci

Christina Ricci, the young actress who’s daring enough for the screen but not powerful enough for Oscars, has joined the cast of BEL AMI, as tweeted by Production Weekly. Based on the short story by author Guy de Maupassant, already starring Rob Pattinson, Uma Thurman, and Kristin Scott Thomas as previously announced back in November…

The official synopsis of the book is about the young, attractive and very ambitious, George Duroy, known to his friends as Bel-Ami, is offered a job as a journalist on La Vie francaise and soon makes a great success of his new career. But he also comes face to face with the realities of the corrupt society in which he lives the sleazy colleagues, the manipulative mistresses and wily financiers and swiftly learns to become an arch-seducer, blackmailer and social climber in a world where love is only a means to an end. Written when Maupassant was at the height of his powers, Bel-Ami is a novel of great frankness and cynicism, but it is also infused with the sheer joy of life depicting the scenes and characters of Paris in the belle epoque with wit, sensitivity and humanity”

The movie version will be the directorial debut of London theater director Declan Donnellan.
Pattinson will play Duroy, who rose from poverty to become one of the most successful men in Paris by way of the ruthless and calculating bedding of the city’s most glamorous and influential women.
Thurman is set to play the wife of Duroy’s friend who helps Duroy in his ascent, later becoming his wife.
Thomas plays a socialite who falls for Duroy, becoming clingy in the process.
Ricci will play a character named Clotilde
Production will start next year in Paris
