THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will soon start filming in Pittsburgh and it will be there for the next 3 weeks, until August 21st. In that celebration, the great Christopher Nolan and his star Christian Bale held a press conference to thank Pitts burgh for welcoming them..
Via bizjournal, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES started production back in May in India and then in United Kingdom and after they’re done with Pittsburgh, they’re going to move to New York and L.A. and finish up there.
Nolan took the time to thank Pittsburgh for being awesome about all this,
“When you’re making a large-scale action film that has to showcase the vitality and size of a large American city but also involves a certain amount of disruption to that city in order to make the action credible on screen”
“It’s a very beautiful city on a very impressive scale and that hasn’t lost its human scale,”
“That is very impressive and very hard to find.”
Pittsburgh will be turned into Gotham City but much of Pittsburgh’s landmarks will remain inclugin Heinz Field, (which will be used as a big football game and crowd scene) Carnegie Mellon University and also a house in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh.
There’s going to be pyrotechnics, large crowd scenes, fight scenes, truck chases, Nolan will be receiving lots of help from Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Works, Police Department and more.
One spoiler that Nolan was willing to reveal is that there would be fake snow in Downtown to simulate winter in Gotham City
I hope the residents of Pittsburgh would be ready for some road closures and would have to get used to that for the next 3 weeks with filming five days a week.
Nolan and Bale did not take questions from the press at the news conference. The security on the set will be ridiculously tight.
Here’s a fan’s flip video of Bale with his comment..
