Comic-Con ’10: THE GREEN HORNET Panel With Seth Rogen, Michel Gondry, And Christoph Waltz
July 23, 2010RamaNo CommentsChristoph Waltz, Michel Gondry, Seth Rogen, The Green Hornet

When the trailer for THE GREEN HORNET first hit the web, it was tough trying to spot the Michel Gondry in that trailer. Gondry helmed The Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind, a segment of Tokyo! To me, Gondry is somewhat on the same level of oddity as Wes Anderson or Spike Jonze.. so you’d expect Gondry style to appear in the trailer. If it wasn’t clear before, but it was definitely clear during today’s panel. They showed… an extended trailer and a never before seen footage. Britt Reid played by Seth Rogen was running from a gang of hoodlums. Kato, played by Jay Chou, came to the rescue. It was in this particular fight scene where you could see how Gondry had envisioned it. At one point, eventhough it would only take one car for Kato to jump over and reach his opponent, Gondry made it seem like Kato would have to run on top of more than 3 cars. The way Kato’s eyes and brain processed his enemies before he attacked was also an interesting take. The fight choreography itself was injected with a certain level of video game type violence but not as much as SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD.
THE GREEN HORNET went through post-prod 3D conversion process but I think they did a pretty good job with the amount of time they were given. Christoph Waltz was there and it was great to see an Oscar winner who deserved his Oscar, a number of attendees came up to the microphone to congratulate him on the win. He was chill and entertaining too, for a guy who confessed that he didn’t grow up reading comic books. Sadly, Cameron Diaz and Jay Chou weren’t there today
