Cowboys and Aliens

TheDailyBeast had an interesting observation article on the 3D trend that’s been insanely taking over cinema and changing the way we watch movies. AVATAR is obviously a success story, sadly you can’t say the same for Robert ZemeckisA Christmas Carol though. Ridley Scott‘s intention of converting ROBIN HOOD into 3D might be a bit considered too late by Universal, of course there’s also Spielberg’s TINTIN which is taking a long post-production process. But wait, the article also mentioned that COWBOYS & ALIENS will start shooting in July, implying that it might also get a 3D treatment…

Back in September of last year, it was announced that the live action adaptation of the graphic novel COWBOYS & ALIENS will be Jon Favreau’s next directing gig after IRON MAN 2. This will reunite him with Tony Stark, Robert Downey Jr. Downey Jr. signed on for the project and this has been one of those projects that Hollywood has always wanted to make since the rights were acquired by Universal and DreamWorks with Steve Oedekerk set to write and direct but the project then moved to Columbia Pictures and Escape Artists, and then back to U and DreamWorks, and the report said at least 7 writers or writer teams have tried to tackle it. Star Trek writers, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman along with Damon Lindeloff have been rewriting the script for Dreamworks and Paramount which will co-finance and Paramount may come in a distributor.
It’s a mix of the sci-fi and Western genres based on a graphic novel written by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley from an original idea by Rosenberg. The story centers on an Old West battle between the Apache and Western settlers, including a former Union Army gunslinger named Zeke Jackson (Downey), that is interrupted by a spaceship crashing into the prairie near Silver City, Ariz. Cowboys and Indians unite in a battle against aliens. This project had me at its unique concept. Can’t wait.
