Pirates of the Caribbean 4

Last month 2 big casting info hit PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGERS TIDE. Hottie Penelope Cruz signed on as the female lead and my favorite TV villain actor who mastered the art of western F-bombs, Ian McShane (Deadwood) was set to play Captain Blackbeard. But it was unclear which specific role Cruz will be playing. MTV had a chat with super producer Jerry Bruckheimer and he revealed..

“She plays the daughter of Blackbeard,” “She’s the daughter of the bad guy.
“She brings a lot of humor to it. And the fact that she’s so feisty,”
“a little romance between [Depp's] Captain Jack and the character that Penelope plays.”

Those of you who’ve seen Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Nine would recognize Cruz indeed as someone who’s humorous and very feisty.
So there you go, Blackbeard’s daughter, Sparrow’s love interest.
Bruckheimer said McShane’s Blackbeard is going to be “the nastiest pirate ever”
Wait,.. not done yet.. he’s also confirmed that Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush will return as Captain Barbossa
Bruckheimer said the story will pick up where At World’s End left off.. which is Sparrow’s quest for The Fountain Of Youth but PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGERS TIDE will take a new direction and offer a fresh approach to the familiar material.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES is LOOSELY based  the  book by author Tim Powers, that features the legendary Blackbeard, here’s the official synopsis of the book…

“Puppeteer John Chandagnac, who was sailing to Jamaica to get revenge on the uncle who had stolen his father’s inheritance, has no choice but to join the buccaneers who have taken him prisoner–and soon, known now as the pirate Jack Shandy, he finds himself learning to survive in a treacherous new world of cutlass-fights, sea-battles, and voodoo magic on sun-blinded tropical islands. The legendary Blackbeard is assembling a ruthless navy of pirates living and undead to voyage to the fabled Fountain of Youth, and Jack Shandy must use magic, swordsmanship, and even his puppeteer skills to free himself and the girl he has fallen in love with from Blackbeard’s deadly supernatural domination.”

The movie’s co-screenwriter Terry Rossio told Empire that PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES will be inspired by Tim Powers‘ book, so it’s not necessary going to be a complete adaptation of the book.

Directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago). Filming will start this summer on the islands of Kaua’i and O’ahu. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGERS TIDE is set to open on May 20th, 2011
