David Duchovny Wants X-FILES 3 In 2012

I know this is not a TV blog but let me just say that my favorite series from the 80s was The A-Team, my favorite series from the 90s was The X-Files and my favorite series from this decade is Lost. I don’t know what the next decade will hold, what the next small screen phenomenon will be. Fringe is cool but at times it seems like a wannabee X-Files. I haven’t seen FlashForward, I heard good things about it but I also heard people say it’s trying to be the next Lost with all its mythology. So please understand if I try to talk about X-Files even if there’s nothing much on the horizon, at least not any time soon…
David Duchovny talked to The Daily Beast that he wants the next X-FILES Movie to happen in a couple of years from now.
Duchovny looks forward to filming a third X-Files film in the near future. “As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.” He defends last year’s widely panned I Want to Believe, as well as the polarizing last few seasons of the television run: “I was happy with it… I have nothing but respect for [X-Files creator] Chris Carter and the writing staff.”
It’s been said that the next X-FILES 3 might arrive December 22nd, 2012 when Chris Carter will bring back aliens to us,.. not quite how Roland Emmerich pictured it.
Gillian Anderson previously said she’d be willing return as Scully for the third installment and the year 2012 was once again suggested.
I respect Duchovny and Scully’s loyalty to Chris Carter. It’s quite rare to see such commitment. After all these years, you would think they’d get sick and tired of working with each other. Either that or each of them would think they’re too big and popular now for a reunion. I remember Jennifer Aniston kept shooting down the idea of FRIENDS movie.
I loved X-Files 2: I Want To Believe. I don’t think the fans gave it enough credit. Yes it was more like an extended episode but hey, if you’ve watched the series, I mean all the episodes in this 90s phenomenon, you’d know that it wasn’t all about aliens.
X-Files: I Want To Believe was made with a budget of $30 Million, it only earned $10 Million in its opening weekend and it ended up doing poorly at domestic box office earning only $20 Million mostly because it suffered from being released the weekend after the great Nolan film The Dark Knight
But Mulder and Scully were received better overseas, earning a total of $68 Million, which gives the studio enough motivation to not rule out the possibility of a third installment.
I think the idea of having X-FILES 3 open in the fall is great, considering summer 2012 would be owned by Marvel’s THE AVENGERS.
By the way, I tried watching Californication, but I couldn’t get myself to like it because I still see Duchovny as Mulder.
