Dennis Iliadis Replacing Martin Campbell For THE BIRDS Remake?

Remaking Alfred Hitchcock movies is a bit of a blasphemy. Granted, THE BIRDS was my least favorite Hitchcok classic, I thought it was the concept was amusing and I was laughing throughout the entire film, but bringing it for today’s audience doesn’t mean it needs to be modernized, I’m all for an idea of re-releasing all of Hitchcock films in theaters for one week only, that would be an epic event. But alas, the inevitable will always happen and Hollywood is seriously developing THE BIRDS remake. Director Martin Campbell and Naomi Watts were circling the project but Panjiba said that’s not the case anymore…
As you know, Campbell is busy making that one big budget superhero movie… who’s he called again? He wears ring, he wears a ring. ah yes.. GREEN LANTERN. So Campbell is off THE BIRDS, Universal is knocking on the door of director Dennis Illiadis who remade Wes Craven‘s The Last House On The Left this past year.
With Campbell gone, the assumption is Watts is no longer interested in this project as well. Which is a shame because Watts kind of looks like Tippi Hedren.
The budget for THE BIRDS remake is $60 Million and it’s going to be rated R. What do you expect? It’s produced by Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay and Bradley Fuller who have been ruining classic movies for the past decade.
The original THE BIRDS wasn’t about blood and gore,.. but with Michael Bay in the producing credit, unfortunately, THE BIRDS remake will probably be about blood, gore and boobies.
