Disney’s GARGOYLES Live Action Movie Is Happening… But It’s Not That ‘GARGOYLES’!

I have a friend who’s a hardcore fan of the 1990s animated series produced by Disney, GARGOYLES. He’d be ecstatic when I tell him this info that a live action GARGOYLES movie is being developed, but then it would crush his heart when he finds out that it’s actually not based on those cartoon characters. Not by a long shot.
According to Variety, scribe Zoe Green will write the script for GARGOYLES based on an original idea she developed with the Mouse House and Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men movies) will produce.
Once again, this is an original work.. not based on that old animated series nor is it based on the comic book produced by the series creator Greg Weisman. So this has nothing to do with all that.
No plot details yet but this GARGOYLES “centers around a world and mythology that the studio was keen to explore”.. what that world and mythology entail is yet to be revealed.

  1. Well, no offense to Disney, but I think we older audiences will avoid the movie out of principle then. Of all the animated series that actually looks like it could be adapted to live action (so long as they stayed on script for the most part) Gargoyles was high on that list. Yet instead they decide to use the name (granted its actually a generic term for stone monsters on buildings) for something else. when they should know the first reaction to the name will be *Gargoyles? They’re doing a live movie of the cartoon? Sounds interesting?* only to learn its not and then think…”so its like Gnomeo and Juliet then or Toy Story…only with gargoyle statues?”

  2. Doing a live action movie based on the show seems like a no brainer. This was only the most successful, longest running cartoon ever. There is an huge fan base and whole new generation of kids that are potential new fans. the merchandise sales alone would be huge. Done correctly this could be the next Harry Potter or Spiderman movie series. Disney please consider doing this movie and doing it right! Bring in the original team so you get it right.

  4. I still don’t understand why they can’t stick to any original stories, half the job is done, and guaranteed happy viewers. Do they think they can come up with something better? Cos usually, they don’t. I’m watching the cartoon series at this moment, its better than i remembered as a kid, and looking at the animation and story line alone, its hundred times better than the cartoons kids are watching today, where the drawings seem lazy and simple and lack of imagination. My 11yr old nephew in particular said how much transformer animated series sucked. I think i will introduce him to gargoyles, cos i know he will love it…. And i know what he will say too…”How cool would it be if they made a movie” Pity
