DreamWorks Animation And Paramount Pictures Part Ways

August 3, 2011RamaNo Comments,

I managed to attend the press screening of DreamWorks Animation’s sequel movie, Kung Fu Panda 2, because I was invited by the film’s distributor, Paramount Pictures. That collaboration has reached its end…

Hollywood Reporter said DWA rejected Paramount’s offer to extend its current distribution deal for another year through 2013.
The deal that both of them have right now runs through 2013 and so Paramount offered to continue to distribute DWA movies for an 8% fee. Problem is Paramount wants to receive more and DWA wants to pay less.
Things got even worse for the negotiation when Paramount decided a few months ago, to launch its own in house animation division..

So now DWA is brainstorming distribution options, which would be a bit tough for them because other studios, like Fox, Sony, and Disney have their own in house animation production.
Do you have any suggestion for DWA, which by the way currently doesn’t have the resources to distribute its own films? Cowboys & Aliens was distributed by Universal and Disney’s Touchstone Pictures is releasing the upcoming R-rated reboot, FRIGHT NIGHT
