DreamWorks Won’t Be Boxing SOUTHPAW With Eminem

Deadline reported that DreamWorks has decided not to house boxing drama SOUTHPAW, starring Eminem, anymore..
Late last year, DreamWorks bought the pitch SOUTHPAW which would be a starring vehicle for EMINEM a.k.a Marshall Mathers
The script would be written by Sons Of Anarchy creator/exec producer Kurt Sutter. Eminem would play a welterweight boxer in SOUTHPAW
And then not too long ago, Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) is attached to direct this project.
But now DreamWorks gave the project to the filmmakers/producers so they could set it up somewhere else. No detailed reason as to why especially considering the success of The Fighter and that DreamWorks does have a boxing movie coming up, but it’s more of a robot boxing movie, REAL STEEL.
The story of SOUTHPAW is about “a fast-rising welterweight boxer who brawls his way to the title, only to see his world crash down around him due to tragedy”. Here’s how scribe Sutter describes it..
“In a way, this is a continuation of the 8 Mile story, but rather than a literal biography, we are doing a metaphorical narrative of the second chapter of his life,”
“He’ll play a world champion boxer who really hits a hard bottom, and has to fight to win back his life for his young daughter. At its core, this is a retelling of his struggles over the last five years of his life, using the boxing analogy. I love that the title refers to [Eminem] being a lefty, which is to boxing what a white rapper is to hip hop; dangerous, unwanted and completely unorthodox. It’s a much harder road for a southpaw than a right-handed boxer.”
So it’s kinda like.. MILE 8 Sequel but told in boxing style? That’s a bit weird
