EASTERN PROMISES 2 May Visit Russia. THE FLY Remake May Not Happen.

David Cronenberg‘s latest film, A DANGEROUS METHOD opened in select cities this week. Not one of my favorite Cronenberg’s works but then again, I’m not a hardcore Cronenberg fan, those of you who are may know what he’s trying to tell with that whole.. sexual psychoanalysis drama, if you will.
Cinemablend chatted with the filmmaker who revealed his plans for EASTERN PROMISES 2, the sequel to the 2007 excellent mob film that gave Viggo Mortensen his first Oscar nod, but many remembered the film for its bath house fight scene..

“I felt we weren’t finished with Nikolai (Viggo Mortensen) yet. I wanted to see him go back to Russia. There were in the original script that I saw, scenes that took place in Russia, and I took them out. I thought the idea of Russians in exile, trying to recreate Russia in London, was intriguing. And it would be subverted by actually shooting some scenes in Russia. But now we’ve done that, I wouldn’t mind seeing Nikolaigo back to his native land. “

And don’t expect THE FLY remake anytime soon.
And ya know what, I don’t mind that there won’t be THE FLY remake, the 1986 film starring Jeff Goldblum remains one of the creepiest, coolest sci-fi horrors in my book..

“I basically said to the guys at Fox, there’s no way I’m going to remake the movie. I did it, what’s the point. But I do have an idea that I’m interested in that I proposed to Mel Brooks when he wanted to do a sequel to my version of The Fly. He said, no, the sequel should be more of the same, and I said then I’m not interested in doing it. Now here was a chance, this many years later, to do what I was suggesting to Mel all those years ago. Of course technology has changed hugely in the last 25 years, so I was interested to see for myself what I would come up with. There was no guarantee that I would like what I came up with, or that they would. It turned out we both liked it, but , it looks like it’s not going to happen. But you never know. Maybe it will eventually.”
