EASY A Director Will Helm ANNIE Remake. Will Smith’s Daughter No Longer Attached To Star

Last year, the oddest but most certainly real info hit the web that Will Smith was planning to make ANNIE musical remake which would star his daughter Willow and that they would also be collaborating with rapper Jay-Z on the music and the project is developed by Columbia Pictures/Sony.
At one point Will Smith even wanted Oscar winner Emma Thompson to write the remake script, which she did and then was rewritten by Aline Brosh McKenna
Fast forward to today, Deadline said Sony has hired Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends With Benefits) to direct this new re-imagining of ANNIE and thankfully, Willow won’t be starring anymore because she’s outgrown the age requirement.
Gluck will rewrite the screenplay, based on Thomas Meehan’s book and musical. This remake will be contemporized and production starts in the fall of 2004
No word yet if Jay Z would still provide new music but he’s involved with the project
