The previous theatrical release date set for ANONYMOUS was March 25th, 2011 but according to BoxOfficeMojo, Sony Pictures has pushed back the Roland Emmerich-directed drama/thriller all the way to September 23rd, 2011
The story is based on the old theory that Shakespeare’s plays were written by Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford.
Emmerich has surrounded this project with talented caliber Brit thesps.
The great Vanessa Redgrave plays Queen Elizabeth; David Thewlis (Harry Potter movies) plays William Cecil, old and young; and Rhys Ifans (Pirate Radio) plays The Earl Of Oxford, “a playwright, poet and patron of the arts, fell under the influential shadow of Robert Cecil, the Queen’s secretary of state, a key player in Elizabethan politics and the man widely thought to be the inspiration for Hamlet’s Polonius.”

  1. I sincerely hope this report is incorrect. September 23rd is too long a time to wait. That means I have to live another whole year.
