FANTASTIC VOYAGE Reboot Is A ‘Love Story’

When I met director Shawn Levy at the press day for Real Steel, he wouldn’t reveal much about FANTASTIC VOYAGE 3D reboot which he is attached to direct.
The project’s producer James Cameron was willing to tell Deadine this much..

“I gave him my idea about how this should be turned into a love story and he’s really run with it,”

Cameron won’t be directing it because he’ll be busy developing AVATAR 2 and 3 and bank a gazillion more money from you.

Back in August, Levy reportedly would only move forward if he could get an A-list name like Will Smith as the lead star.

FANTASTIC VOYAGE remake, which will be in 3D, won’t be cheap, keep in mind that the script from early on will have the characters shrunk into a ship and they go inside a body, so there’s going to be some heavy use CGI up in this joint. Shane Salerno‘s script with polishing by Laeta Kalogridis is strong.

The original 1966 FANTASTIC VOYAGE starred Raquel Welch, the story was about “a diplomat who is nearly assassinated. In order to save him, a submarine is shrunken to microscopic size and injected into his blood stream with a small crew. Problems arise almost as soon as they enter the bloodstream.”
The film won 2 Oscars for Best Art Direction and Best FX.
The new version will be in 3D.. with Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment behind this project
