Farrelly Worried About STOOGES. Giamatti To Replace Penn As Larry?

Stooges

No too long ago, an info hit the web that Sean Penn has dropped THE THREE STOOGES movie to be directed by The Farelly Brothers. The reason was he wanted to take a year off to re-connect with his family. Wise move on his part, but I still don’t get why he said yes before and why Benicio Del Toro as Moe and Jim Carrey as Curly haven’t made the same decision and run away as fast as they could from this project too. Maybe it’s just a matter of time before they realize their mistake.

Hitfix reported that THE THREE STOOGES movie is still a go without Penn, but the studio might decide to recast.
But in a recent chat with NYMag, co-director Peter Farelly was worried about this that Penn’s departure might hurt this passion project that he and his brother apparently have been working on for the past decade..

“I’m fearing a domino effect now,”

Keep in mind that the movie’s not biopic, it’s going to be another comedy with a separate story from the silly side world of Farrelly Bros. It’s expected to hit theaters in August 2010. So Farelly explained what they had in mind..

“It will be three half-hour episodes rolled into an hour-and-a-half movie,”
“Each part picks up where the other one left off. They look the same, talk the same, and act the same, but it takes place in the present, and we wrote new material.”

The Boston Herald recommended Paul Giamatti to replace Penn as Larry in the movie. Farelly said he’d love to have Paul but the offer already went out to someone else. He didn’t reveal who that someone else is.

After the awful comedy The Heartbreak Kid (2008), it’s obvious that The Farrelly Brothers‘ brand of humor couldn’t keep up with the style of Judd Apatow and his gang.
But if Farrellys still want to go through with this STOOGES project, I suggest aiming low when it comes to casting.
They should make a star out of an ordinary actor like they did with Ben Stiller back in There’s Something About Mary (1998)
I’m thinking that maybe that geek, Paul Rust from the upcoming I Love You Beth Cooper can be Larry, the fat kid, Andrew Caldwell, from College can play Curly and the dude from Not Another Teen Movie, Samm Levine, could play Moe.
