Fassenden Is NOT The Director Of THE ORPHANAGE Remake Anymore

Juan Antonio Bayona‘s 2007 supernatural thriller/suspense, THE ORPHANAGE should be left alone as a classic but as we know, a New Line developing the remake with Larry Fessenden as the director, the only thing that kept me from going beserk is that the producer of the original, Guillermo Del Toro was said to be involved in the writing process. Now that part was cool but it was odd as well because GDT is busy working on THE HOBBIT, so how would he be able to have time working on THE ORPHANAGE remake. We don’t have to worry about any of that anymore…
AITH had a brief chat with Fessenden the other day, who revealed that he will no longer direct THE ORPHANAGE remake..
“I think I’m out of it. Hopefully they’ll still use my script, but I’m not sure I’m directing it anymore. That’s Hollywood
for ya.”
Sounds like he’s bitter about the studio, maybe he wanted stay true to the original material but the people in higher places wanted to tweak it. Filmmakers exiting projects due to creative differences is not a new thing but let’s just hope that this could be a sign that THE ORPHANAGE remake will never have to happen at all.
The original movie was about Laura, an orphan growing up in an orphanage with her five little friends. Years later she brings her husband and her adopted child, Simon to live in the house and they have plan to run the place as a shelter for kids with problem. Simon starts making invisible friends, at first it’s not serious but when Simon disappears, a secret from the past is slowly revealed and to find Simon back, Laura is forced to play the game they used to play when they were kids.
