Fessenden To Direct THE ORPHANAGE Remake

Hollywood and its douchebag director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) are already ruining Let The Right One In by currently developing the American remake, I might as well have all of my favorite horror/suspense movies come out with their hands up, one holding a white flag of surrender because the remake of the 2007 awesomeness THE ORPHANAGE is also happening, the only thing that keeps me from hating it fully is the fact that the original version’s producer Guillermo Del Toro actually returned and got involved in the writing process.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Actor-producer-director Larry Fessenden has signed on to direct THE ORPHANAGE remake for New Line. He has also written the script with GDT. This baffles me, why did GDT feel it necessary to remake something he previously produced that’s already great as it is? Could this be that an English remake of Pan’s Labyrinth might be a possibility in the near future, also produced by GDT? If I were him, I’d pull every string to make sure that none of my own damn movies would get remade until 20 years after I die.

GDT has been known to be a one of those great filmmakers who likes to pay it forward, is always willing to help struggling aspiring filmmakers he believes could be the next best thing out there. Fessenden has worked on low-budget horror movies like Wendigo and The Last Winter. So him and GDT know each other and share the same passion for horror and creatures, he believes Fessenden could deliver an American version that’s as scary and disturbing as the original, Il Orfanato, directed by GDT’s other entourage, Juan Antonio Bayona. It was simply one of top 10 best movies in 2007, The Sixth Sense meets The Others with extra fright (check out my review).
