Ok, now that we’re approaching the new year, it’s time to anticipate superhero movies that are going to arrive in the year after and as we know, THE FIRST AVENGER CAPTAIN AMERICA is scheduled to open on July 22nd, 2011 to be directed by Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park 3) and so far that date still stands. Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada previously said that he’s read the initial screenplay and “it’s going to rock everyone’s socks off” and Jon Favreau recently said he will not direct THE AVENGERS because he’s more comfortable working with tech-based hero like IRON MAN than to figure out how to combine the supernatural elements of THOR which by the way will start filming in mid-January…

A recent article in Fangoria revealed that Johnston wants to start production on THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA in June 2010.

“By the time I got on a plane and arrived, it was three,” recalls Johnston, speaking from the art department of THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA, which he’s readying for a June start.”

No cast yet. One rumor after another was shot down, from Matthew McConaughey, Will Smith, Channing Tatum, even that dude from American Gladiator. I personally don’t know much about CAPTAIN AMERICA, at least not enough to go gung-ho about this live action movie, which is why I wasn’t one of those who went all bananas over the supposed hidden CAPTAIN AMERICA clues in Louis Leterrier‘s The Incredible Hulk Movie.
Joe Johnston is not what I’d consider a caliber director, Jurassic Park 3 was just a filler, if it hadn’t existed, the world would’ve been fine. I’ve heard the early test screenings of The Wolfman weren’t well-received, so it’s weak enough that I don’t know much about CAPTAIN AMERICA, now that the movie is in the hands of Johnston makes me even more nervous.
