Guillermo Del Toro Says AT THE MOUNTAIN OF MADNESS Will Still Happen. Gives Update On THE HULK Series

The web, these past few days, has been bombarded with Guillermo Del Toro info mainly because he’s currently out promoting the horror flick that he produced and co-wrote, DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK but of course the press always ask him about the gazillion other projects that he’s attached to, one of which is the R-rated AT THE MOUNTAIN OF MADNESS adaptation which was shot down by Universal. GDT told LA Times he’s not giving up and the Lovecraft movie could still happen with a PG-13 approach..

“I’m not giving up,”
“MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS has been with me for 13, 14 years and I really don’t want to give up on it…the way I plan to do it is a very peculiar take, and I think if I don’t stick with it the version I would like to see would never get made.”
“Coming out of PACIFIC RIM, I intend to see if we can do it immediately.”
“I knew ‘Mountains’ was a long shot,”
“In fact, it was a miracle we got that close to production.”

Next stop, GDT told Fearnet about the HULK series that he’s developing with ABC Studios and Marvel TV and how it’s coming along so far..

“We turned in the outline to ABC about four weeks ago. And then we did a rewrite for ABC on the outline, and now we are lining up the pages.”

When asked if this HULK will be different from the other versions that have been on both TV and big screen..

“I think so. Or we wouldn’t be trying it. Actually, one of the points of this project early on with Marvel, was “We’re going to do this thing different, and here’s how. Are you interested?” And they were.”

Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy movies) and David Eick (Battlestar Galactica producer) will develop the series. Dr. Bruce Banner in this new series will be in his 20′s and the HULK will depicted with a mix of CGI and practical effects (prosthetics, Puppetry). “Physicist Bruce Banner, whose alter ego is the green and raging Hulk, will be.. less reactive and more energized as the world is still his oyster.” The title is now simply.. THE HULK.
Eick is expected to draft the script and GDT is expected to direct the pilot, but both will work on the story
Marvel wants to launch this series sometime in fall 2012, a few months after THE AVENGERS hits theaters.
