HANNAH MONTANA THE MOVIE Review
April 10, 2009RamaNo CommentsHannah Montana, Miley Cyrus

I just had to check out what the fascination is all about. HANNAH MONTANA THE MOVIE is definitely just for the fans, I may not fully fathom why little girls are screaming over this superstar story but I’m kinda glad that such a decent role model exists for young viewers today. I just hope she doesn’t sell out one of these years. The movie is.. somewhat catchy as in it’s got some songs that even speak to this rocknroll heart of mine. The story is way too predictable but what do you expect from a family movie that stems from a Disney channel series?!
Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) struggles to juggle school, friends and her secret pop-star persona; when Hannah Montana’s soaring popularity threatens to take over her life—she just might let it. So her father (Billy Ray Cyrus) takes the teen home to Crowley Corners, Tenn., for a dose of reality, kicking off an adventure filled with the kind of fun, laughter and romance even Hannah Montana couldn’t imagine.

Ok, let me just throw it out there right now. Acting.. horrible. Especially Billy Ray Cyrus, seeing him do the dad role while trying to flirt with a hot country woman and raising Miley at the same time using his cheesy parenting advices will give you an achy breaky heart. Miley at times can be comical but for the most part and I can see her attempting to hit that drama tones but she’s not quite there yet. A little more coaching might do the trick. But I think she can live off her Hannah Montana reputation for the rest of her life without worrying about typecast or being a versatile actress.
Direction, visual, all the technical aspects.. well, let’s just say that the whole thing feels like watching a TV movie. They could’ve had this gone straight to DVD or just plain having it aired on Disney Channel as a movie event. The theatrical elements aren’t that convincing, small screen should’ve been the medium.
But the fans wont’ care, they could care less, they will not give a sh*t about over-analyzing their idol because their world revolves around her and to them, the movie’s perfect. Once again, the story is too predictable, it’s the same storyline we’ve seen a thousand times before in other way better movies.
The lessons or the message that the movie tries to get across to her fans however, I think it’s worth reminding again and again. It’s good to see that my little cousins or sisters could see a story about being true to yourself, moving on, the importance of home and family, life’s a climb and finding love in front of you all along. I don’t mean to get all mushy but I can totally dig that part of this movie.
Last but not least, I’m a sucker for good country songs so that’s why I don’t fully hate HANNAH MONTANA THE MOVIE. There’s some music up in this movie that will make you tap to the rhythms and the beat even if you try to resist it.
No offense, but I think those who bash this movie too much probably don’t have that great of a childhood.
