Interview: Sara Paxton Talks THE INNKEEPERS

Special thanks to Magnet Releasing, not too long ago I got to interview the beautiful actress Sara Paxton (Superhero Movie, The Last House On The Left, Shark Night) about her new horror flick, THE INNKEEPERS (watch the trailer) which is available now on VOD and will hit theaters on February 3rd, 2012
What was fun about this interview is that in the middle of our chat, the sink in Paxton’s hotel room suddenly turned on by itself, I don’t know if it was all part of the tricks in promotion of this movie but it sure as hell was fun, Paxton seemed to get quite a kick out of it.
Check out the entire interview below..
RS: You were in The Last House On The Left, and Shark Night 3D and now this and then you’re going to be in The Briar Lake Murders. Why do you keep finding yourself in this genre?
SP: “The Last House On The Left was like the first, I did it to to just sort of break out of the teen comedy genre, and now all I get offered are horror movies because of that one movie, which is fine, I really actually enjoy working in this genre, so I’m cool with it but I like to do all kinds of things, that’s just sort of what’s been happening, the last couple of years, that’s just what I’ve been offered.”
RS: Are you a fan of horror? Do you have a favorite horror movie?
SP: “I’m a fan but they scare me, I’m a big baby so I don’t seek out horror movies because they terrify me, The Exorcist really scared me when I was little, and still like so scared. I can’t even watch it, I cannot watch it.”
RS: Your character in this film is fascinated with ghosts, do you watch ghost hunters shows on TV?
SP: “I’m so fascinated by it because they never find the ghosts ever, and just so weird, so funny to me, I get scared and I’m like ‘they’re so close, this is the one, they’re going to find the ghost’ and they don’t.”
RS: Do you watch those shows with the intention of making fun of them?
SP: “No, it makes me sad, I really want them to catch a ghost so then I can have proof that there’s ghosts.”
RS: Why do you think people are fascinated by ghosts and demons and paranormal activities?
SP: “I think it’s the unknown, we really don’t know. There’s no proof of any of that stuff existing and yet it’s everywhere, people are so curious about it and it’s also death, everyone dies but nobody knows what happens for real when you die so people are obsessed with it.”
RS: Acting in horror movies are physically demanding, does it get less challenging or slightly more comfortable with the next horror movie that you do?
SP: “I think that’s one of the hardest things about it, you’re doing it over and over and over again and you can’t half-ass it, ya know. You can’t be like ‘o I’m tired so I’m gonna run like I’m tired’ no, every single time you gotta be like, running and scared, and screaming and it really is exhausting”
RS: What was it like being directed by Ti West? What kind of director was he?
SP: “I love Ti, he’s probably the best director I’ve ever worked with. We’re all friends
I had the best time probably ever working on this movie, he is so talented and so young really to be so talented and he’s so specific and a perfectionist, which makes my job so much easier because we’re not doing 50 takes of every shot, we’re not shooting from every angle to the point where I’m losing track of what I’m even supposed to be doing, once he’s got it, we move on because he just knows what he wants to do”
RS: I’m sure you guys goofed around in between takes, how did you prepare yourself the minute or the second the camera starts rolling again?
SP: “A lot of the movie is goofing around, but in the parts when we were supposed to be scared, it’s kinda hard to goof around because we were filming in the scary basement so everyone was kind of tensed so it just worked out.”
RS: What did you think of the looks that they had for the demons/ghosts in this movie?
SP: “The demons scared the shit out of me, the lady really scared me because she had to wear these contacts lenses where she couldn’t see and I would hide, I would run away from her, she freaked me out.”
RS: Are there any ghost encounter stories while you were staying at the Yankee Pedlar Inn?
SP: “It’s a really weird place, I know that they all lived there the first time when they were filming Ti’s movie, House Of The Devil, and they came back because it was so creepy, you can go to Connecticut right now and go to the Yankee Pedlar and it feels like you walk into the movie, nothing’s changed, it’s the exact same way, it’s definitely a weird place, it’s a really weird vibe, it’s creepy.”
RS: Did you feel a presence?
SP: “I don’t know if I felt a presence but in the middle of the night, stuff like this would happen, my door would just fly open or my TV would turn on and off, my lights would flicker, my phone would ring and nobody would there.”
RS: What was it like working with the hottie from Top Gun, Kelly McGillis? Did she give you any career advice?
SP: “Because she made me nervous in real life, it was easy to get into character for those scenes where she’s supposed to make me nervous, she never gave me advice, she treated me like we were equals, when we became friends, we were just cool, she was never like, ‘o you’ll understand when you’re my age’ ya know what I mean?! She never treated me like that, which was nice, she’s a really cool lady.”
RS: What will you be working on next?
SP: “I have nothing ahead of me that I’m working on right now, the year just started so I’m just excited to see what happens to me this year, but last year I did another movie called Static which is sort of another ghost story movie, it’s different from this movie. I haven’t seen it yet so I’m excited to see how it turns out. I did a murder mystery called Liar’s All, and I did a drama called The Boys Of Abu Ghraib so I guess that’s supposed to come out this year.”
RS: I actually enjoyed Superhero Movie, I don’t like spoof movies but I thought Superhero Movie was fun, are there talks of sequel at all?
SP: “Not that I’ve heard of, no, I haven’t heard of anything about sequel but that would be fun, I’d be ok with that.”

Synopsis: From director Ti West (The House of the Devil) comes THE INNKEEPERS. Set in the venerable Yankee Pedlar Inn, which is about to shut its doors for good after over a century of service. As the Inn’s final days draw near, odd guests check in as the pair of minimum wage “ghost hunters” begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel’s long unexplained history.
