James Cameron’s Next Epic Sci-Fi Movie

Last year, Hollywood Reporter said Fox bought the spec script DOOMSDAY PROTOCOL from scribe Shane Salermo (Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, Ghost Rider, Shaft and Armageddon), while the plots were kept under wraps, it was described as an an epic sci-fi adventure in the vein of The Seven Samurai involving a group of aliens and humans with various abilities who are brought together to save Earth. No names of producers or directors mentioned. But now, Production Weekly‘s twitter announced that this might be the next project for the director who’s bringing us AVATAR…
James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an “event” film set in the future.
It doesn’t say in what capacity his involvement will be but the assumption at this point is that Cameron will just be producing. There have been talks of AVATAR 2 and 3. But then again Cameron once said in an interview that if AVATAR ends up becoming a flop, he’ll just act like it never happened. After years developing this passion project of his, besides, I doubt that he wants to just jump on helming Salerno’s story this fast. He’s the kind of filmmaker who wouldn’t mind taking hiatus once in a while. I’m sure confirmation will hit the web soon enough.
