Yesterday, Bryan Singer told the world that he’s returned to the X-Men franchise to direct X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. Today Heatvision gave confirmation. I’m just hoping Singer would leave out some of the unnecessary lovey dubby drama ala Superman Returns and just stick with entertaining VFX action. Josh Schwartz wrote the original draft and for a while, everybody thought the studio was pretty much going to move forward with his work but that’s not the case anymore…

The article states that Fox has hired scribe Jamie Moss to write a new draft of the screenplay for X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, the story, based on a Marvel Comics limited series written by Jeff Parker is about the first class of Xavier’s Institute For Higher Learning, way back when Scott, Jean, Beast, Iceman, Rogue, Angel, Colossus, Jubilee and Shadowcat. Fox is hoping X-MEN: FIRST CLASS will become its own franchise as those characters grow up.
Moss worked on Dreamworks adaptation of Ghost in the Shell and wrote David Ayer‘s Street Kings starring Keanu Reeves.
Producer Donner once emphasized that the intention is to make the tone for X-MEN: FIRST CLASS to be like the recent, darker Harry Potter movies. It will not be a happy-go-lucky kiddie movie. The kids will be in class, but more often they’ll be off on adventures, which Professor X isn’t too happy about! And she believes casting the right child actors for the roles will be very important.
