January 2010 movies

January is usually a dumping ground for lame movies.. movies that we can’t stand. I mean, sticking a fork in your eyes would feel more exhilarating than watching them, that’s how bad it gets…. Last year we had The Unborn, The Uninvited, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Inkheart, the only things decent were Underworld: Rise Of Lycans, Taken and New In Town.
A couple of years ago we were tortured by 21 Dresses, First Sunday, Meet The Spartans. Point is, if you make a movie and they put in a January slot, more than likely it means that your movie is crapola.

But this year’s January wasn’t so bad. R-rated thrillers like the vampire coolnes, Daybreakers, the violent yet profound journey of protecting the Bible, The Book Of Eli, and the Mel’s way of revenge, Edge Of Darkness have saved January 2010 from going down in flame.
For those of you girls who love chick flick, although Leap Year and When In Rome weren’t exactly The Notebook, but those two did their job and you won’t get disappointed.
Even the Jackie Chan family film, The Spy Next Door, which I was practically trashing since fall of last year managed to have its moments. Michael Cera‘s attempt to prove to the world that he could act as more than just himself in Youth Revolt worked well for me despite the movie’s inability to cover its $18 Million budget, it only earned $14 Million in the B.O.
Sure they were still movies like Tooth Fairy and Legion that fell short, way short. But inspiring feel good dramas like Extraordinary Measure and To Save A Life no matter how non-cinematic they can be, would ease the pain.
