Hawkeye Jeremy Renner

It’s thanksgiving, I know, I probably should take recess or get some decent sleep for once but I figured there’s there’s no harm in going through this part real quickly before we head down to the homes of our families and relatives and eat some jivin’ turkey! As I’ve said before, I don’t know much about THOR, I didn’t grew up a fan of the God of Thunder, I don’t hate him, it’s just that I’d probably know a bit more about Superman, Spider-Man and Batman, that’s all. But as you know, the marvel live action movie THOR, directed by Kenneth Branagh has been gaining up speed in its casting, mainly because they have to get right actors for the right parts before production starts in January 2010…

Via comingsoon.net, in an Empire Magazine interview, actor Jeremy Renner who gave towering performance in The Hurt Locker indicated that Marvel Studios is looking for an actor to appear briefly, as Hawkeye in THOR as a teaser for when all the Marvel heroes band together as THE AVENGERS, similar to Samuel L. Jackson‘s cameo as Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man.

“Hawkeye could be interesting,”
“They’re going to send me some stuff on it, see what it is, but I think they’re pretty awesome, trying to make superhero movies almost plausible and not just some fantasy thing.”

Hawkeye is a character that who became a superhero after seeing Iron Man in action. He fell in love with Black Widow (played by Scar-Jo in IRON MAN 2) a spy for the Soviet Union. She tricked him into helping her to steal technology developed by Tony Stark. After battling and defeated by Iron Man, he decided to join the good guys, Hawkeye applied for membership in THE AVENGERS and was accepted.
As we know, THE AVENGERS movie is happening, well, it will happen after Marvel is done with building the grounds for the live action movie FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA.
So Hawkeye making cameo at the end of THOR inviting the man with the mighty hammer to join the team would be a nice touch.
Renner is damn good, under-appreciated actor and he can pull this off. He’s been wanting to do a graphic novel adaptation, at one point he even wanted to be in the Sylvain White-directed adaptation, THE LOSERS but he didn’t get a part. Hopefully we’ll hear confirmation soon enough, unless Marvel decides to go for an unknown with Hawkeye.

On another note, AICN is confident in its source that THOR‘s human alter ego when he reaches earth, Donald Blake will NOT be in the movie.

The story in the comic books according to Wiki, “Thor’s father Odin decides his son needs to be taught humility and consequently places Thor (without memories of godhood) into the body and memories of an existing, partially disabled human medical student, Donald Blake. After becoming a doctor and thoroughly believing himself to be the young surgeon Blake, he later discovers Thor’s disguised hammer and learns to change back and forth into the Thunder God. The real Blake’s persona remains elsewhere until many years later, after Odin becomes satisfied of Thor’s humility and lifts the spell, thereby removing the need for a mortal alter ego.”
So when THOR is Donald Blake is when he meets his human lover, Nurse Jane, played by Natalie Portman.

But with this info, it seems weird that we’d be anticipating THOR still as THOR when he’s among humans. Wouldn’t that be a bit comical?

Chris Hemsworth plays the hero with the mighty hammer and Tom Hiddleston as the villain Loki and Natalie Portman as THOR’s mortal love interest Nurse Jane. Jaimie Alexander plays Sif, the tough female Asgardian warrior, Idris Elba as Hemdall, Kat Dennings as Marcy Lewis,  Anthony Hopkins as Odin, also starring Stellan Skarsgard and Colm Feore

The script was written by Mark Protosevich and Zack Stentz & Ashley Miller. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth

Production is set to start in 2010.
THOR opens May 20th, 2011
