In a recent interview, via Collider, the great John Malkovich said that yes he was indeed supposed to play The Vulture in Sam Raimi‘s SPIDER-MAN 4 which as you know eventually got scrapped and now we’re anticipating the reboot by Marc Webb.
Malkovich strongly believed that fans and the studio didn’t like The Vulture and he was disappointed when he found out that he wouldn’t be able to play the character anymore..

“Well, I think a lot of the people who sort of follow that genre… I’m not sure, I never really spoke with Sam about this, but I’m not sure they — maybe the kind of fanbase, the fanboys — either didn’t approve of that character as an adversary for him to some extent…or maybe the studio. Or maybe that was totally unrelated to why it fell apart.”

“Yes [I was disappointed],”
“But because I like Sam and I like Toby [Maguire] and all that stuff, and the producers, two of whom I’d met before because I’d been offered the first [film] … I came to like them, so sure why not? But it didn’t play out.”

Do you agree with Malkovich blaming the character Vulture for the demise of SPIDER-MAN 4?
By the way, Malkovich was considered to play Norm Osborn/Green Goblin in the first Spider-Man movie, that role went to Willem Dafoe instead.

According to Wiki, “The Vulture wears a costume of synthetic stretch fabric housing a tailored electromagnetic harness with bird-like wings attached beneath the arms. This consists of an electromagnetic anti-graviton generator worn on his body as a harness enabling him to fly silently with precise maneuverability. The harness also increases his resistance to injury to the point that he can survive blows from Spider-Man’s enhanced strength despite his age.”
There have been a few separate versions of The Vulture but it started with the character Adrian Toomes.
