It literally has been a year now since the announcement that rising comedy movie star Jonah Hill was hired to write the screenplay for the movie version based on the popular 80s series, 21 JUMP STREET. The questions that came to my mind at the time was that I didn’t know Hill could write scripts and will he make the movie rated R. Both questions were answered because Hill is working on the story, in between filming for GET HIM TO THE GREEK, and he told Complex that yes,.. it won’t be PG-13, baby!

Yeah, if you look at the opening episode of 21 Jump Street, you see a man looking at a picture of a cop holding a little boy’s hand, and you hear a crazy saxophone solo, and you pan up and it’s Johnny Depp looking at the picture playing the crazy saxophone solo. [Laughs.] We’re not even spoofing the movie. It’s not strictly comedic, either. We’re doing a full-on action movie, blowing shit up.
[Sony execs said] they were gonna let me make my kind of movie—an R-rated, insane, Bad-Boys-meets-John Hughes-type movie—and I told them the second they don’t, I’m not gonna be involved anymore.

I don’t see this as a complete surprise because anyone who hangs out with Judd Apatow would attain the same talent and the same R-rated sense of humor sooner or later. I just hope Hill doesn’t cast himself in the role that made Johnny Depp a heartthrob icon, that’s a big shoe to fill. He did say once that he might have a part for Depp in the movie.
As far as who I think should play a movie version of Holly Robinson Pete,.. well, actress Megan Good would be a pretty good suggestion.
The series, which ran from 1987-1991 was about young cops who got signed to an elite squad that would infiltrate highs chool and fight crimes.
