Kevin Smith’s 2-Part Film Hockey HIT SOMEBODY May Just Be ONE Big Movie Instead

I remember I attended Alvin And The Chipmunks – Chipwrecked press junket and star Jason Lee, who is Kevin Smith‘s good friend and past collaborator, was surprised that Smith would have another movie, HIT SOMEBODY, Lee thought Smith already retired.
Back in August, It was reported that Kevin Smith‘s next and supposedly final film, which is about hockey called HIT SOMEBODY would be divided into 2 segments, so there will be HIT SOMEBODY part 1 and HIT SOMEBODY part 2, you get the idea. The first movie will be about the character Buddy and his upbringing in Canada, and the 2nd movie would be about him making it into the NHL pro hockey league. And then Smith sorta revealed the titles for each, par 1 was going to be called HOME while part 2 would be called AWAY. I don’t know if he was joking or serious.
It’s a bit challenging following Smith’s smodcast twitter because he’s got over a million followers but recently he had a tweet conversation which seems to imply that his 2 part movie would probably end up being only ONE movie instead..

Via @pezwright ”when do you start shooting Hit Somebody?” June, I’m thinking. Writing script two, but now gonna make one big movie instead.

Via @VideoETA ”Any guess as to TRT of the big version of HIT SOMEBODY? 150 minutes?” Max, w/ credits. I’m more of an editor than director…

VIa @sonic43 ”back to 1 big movie with Hit Somebody. I prefer it” Makes more sense, anyway: the movie’s about taking one, good shot.

Via @pezwright ”Damn, was looking forward to the two parter. I assume a 2013 release then?” Looking to debut at Sundance 2013. Minus Phelps.

Either 2 parter or just one long movie, Smith’s better make this a good one if he wants to go out with a bang.
I enjoyed his previous film Red State partly because I had low expectation prior to watching the film. I haven’t been Smith’s fan for a while now

HIT SOMEBODY starring Kyle Gallner (A Nightmare On Elm Street reboot), Nicholas Braun and Ralph Garmanis, is based on the Warren Zevon hockey song of the same name, co-written by Mitch Alborn who wrote the screenplay with Kevin Smith
The story centers on “a hockey player who gets into the other hockey league of the ’70s, the WHA (World Hockey Association), based on his fighting skills rather than his hockey skills.”
This Smith’s description on how he’d like the movie to be..

“I’m going for the ‘Forest Gump’ of sports movies, but not in terms of the visual effects, but it takes place through many different eras,”
“It starts in the ’50s and ends in the ’80s, and primarily it’s a big Valentine to the game of hockey, and an even bigger Valentine to Canada. The whole movie is about the game and the land and how they’re one and how only Canada can produce a hockey player. I’ve been a ‘Canadaphile’ for years now, and in terms of influence, it helps to have the writings of Stephen Brunt, the guy who wrote ‘Gretzky’s Tears’ and ‘Search for Bobby Orr,’ stuff like that completely helps fill in the gaps for me not actually being Canadian.”
