Lone Scherfig One Day

When talking about one of the great drama of the year, An Education, it always comes down to how great Carey Mulligan‘s performance was as the female lead. No doubt, hers was Oscar worthy but I think the director, Lone Scherfig, is partly to thank for how well the story played out. But counting her in as a contender for Best Director category might be a long shot. I am however, anticipating her next project which is more or less in similar tone as When Harry Met Sally,…

According to Hollywood Reporter, the Danish filmmaker Scherfig has signed on to direct the adaptation of ONE DAY based on the graphic novel by author David Nicholls. The project is housed at Focus Features with Nina Jacobson producing via her Color Force banner along with Random House Films.
It’s a romantic comedy about “Dexter and Emma, who meet for the first time during their graduation in 1988 and proceed to meet one day a year for the next 20 years”

Here’s the synopsis of the book…
‘I can imagine you at forty,’ she said, a hint of malice in her voice. ‘I can picture it right now.’

He smiled without opening his eyes. ‘Go on then.’

15th July 1988. Emma and Dexter meet for the first time on the night of their graduation. Tomorrow they must go their separate ways.

So where will they be on this one day next year?

And the year after that? And every year that follows?

Twenty years, two people, ONE DAY. From the author of the massive bestseller STARTER FOR TEN.
