M. Night Shyamalan Wants THE LAST AIRBENDER Sequels To Go Darker

The Last Airbender may be one of the worst movies this year. Hell I’d consider it one of the worst I’ve ever seen in my whole life but as expected, it did take in about $80 Million in its first opening weekend, having it open on a long 4th of July weekend helped significantly. So with that kind of number, there’s a big chance the trilogy plan with M.Night Shyamalan attached would still move forward but that heavily depends on Paramount’s decision. He talked to MTV recently about his plans for the second and third movie and he didn’t show any sign of worry at all, as if nobody sent him a memo that his take on The Last Airbender was terrible…
“The third is more ambiguous, but the second one, I’ve written a draft that I’m really happy with and is darker and richer, and it has a wonderful antagonist in it in Azula, who’s kind of like our only real, pure antagonist in the series, so I’m excited about that.”
He also explained why the Kyoshi Warriors (elite group of female fighters) weren’t in the first movie..
“We shot [the scene] and [the Kyoshi Warriors] were amazing, and we spent an unbelievable amount of time choreographing them,”
“And they just distracted from the movie, because the movie wasn’t about them.”
