Madden And The FAIR LADY

After names like Danny Boyle and Joe Wright who turned down the offer even after playing with the idea, according to Variety, Producers Duncan Kenworthy and Cameron Mackintosh may have found their director for the retelling of MY FAIR LADY. His name is John Madden, nominated for helming Shakespeare In Love but his works after that weren’t as masterful in my opinion (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Proof) but this goes to show that MY FAIR LADY is within his field…
We know that it was previously announced that Keira Knightley is ready to play Eliza Doolittle, a character made iconic by the late great Audrey Hepburn in the story about a misogynistic and snobbish phonetics professor who agrees to a wager that he can take a flower girl and make her presentable in high society but the report now says there’s still no definite agreement that Knightley will be involved at all. Maybe she lost interest after Wright (Pride and Prejudice, Atonement) didn’t want to work on this project
word has it, Daniel Craig would be the top candidate for Professor Henry Higgins played by Rex Harrison in the original 1964 version, no confirmation on that either.
But now it says that this remake will be more based on the Alan Jay Lerner‘s book and the original play it is based on PYGMALION by George Bernard instead of the 1964 classic film.
This might be a good thing, I’ve been seeing this treatment happen often lately, The Coen Bros. is remaking True Grit that will be more faithful to the book than the John Wayne version.
