Mark Ruffalo As The New Hulk In THE AVENGERS?
The previous name rumored to replace Edward Norton as the new Bruce Banner/Hulk in THE AVENGERS, was Joaquin Phoenix but today Deadline said star of The Kids Are All Right, Mark Ruffalo (Shutter Island) is in “late-stage discussions” with Marvel to play the role. It’s clear now that Marvel badly tries to cast somebody so that they will have the great line-up announcement at Comic-Con next week, without Hulk missing. Just like Phoenix, I don’t have anything against Ruffalo either, he’s not an Oscar worthy actor like Norton, Phoenix, RDJ, Sam Jackson or Paltrow but THE AVENGERS is perfect for Ruffalo because he’s always been one of those underrated supporting actors, plus he’s really good at cast ensemble projects (The Brothers Bloom, Zodiac, All The King’s Men, Reservation Road), that’s his forte. We might hear confirmation about Ruffalo as the new Hulk soon enough.
THE AVENGERS will be directed by Joss Whedon and it’s set to open on May 4th, 2012
