The last time director Martin Scorsese collaborated with screenwriter William Monahan on a remake, each of them won Oscar for The Departed. Could their next remake collaboration be just as successful?..

Hollywood Reporter said Scorsese and Monahan are developing a remake of 1974′s THE GAMBLER and they’d very much like Leonardo DiCaprio to be the film’s star (of course) but DiCaprio’s involvement with this project is not yet confirmed.
The original film, based on the short novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, starred James Caan as a NY English professor, named Alex Freed, who inspired his student but also had a gambling addiction
The remake will be housed at Paramount and it will be produced by Irwin Winkler who also produced the original

But Scorsese is a busy man, he’s got HUGO coming up this Thanksgiving and then he’ll direct SILENCE and then after that THE WOLF OF WALL STREET adaptation also with DiCaprio attached to star, so THE GAMBLER will have to wait for now
