MARVIN THE MARTIAN Gets Director And Screenwriters. Mike Myers To Voice?

Well, well, well, look who’s back. It’s been a year and a half since it was announced that Warner Bros. was launching development of a MARVIN THE MARTIAN The Movie which will be a blend live action and CGI, like Alvin And The Chipmunks. Marvin was created by Chuck Jones. He’s described as one who was quiet and soft-spoken, but whose actions were incredibly destructive and legitimately dangerous. The idea for the movie plot is to have it as a Christmas story, with Marvin coming to Earth to destroy Christmas but being prevented from doing so when he’s trapped in a gift box. I thought the project went back to space, never to be heard from again but now LA Times got some more details..
The project is moving forward, maybe not at the speed of light through many galaxies but.. it’s gettin’ there. Even though Roland Emmerich wants the world to end in 2012, WB wants MARVIN THE MARTIAN to destroy earth in Christmas 2011.
Warner Bros. and producer Alcon Entertainment have hired director Alex Zamm (Inspector Gadget 2, Dr. Doolittle: Million Dollar Mutt)
If you remember, this past summer, Zamm also signed on to direct another Alcon live action/CG hybrid film HONG KONG PHOOEY based on the 1970s Hanna-Barbera cartoon about a a police station janitor who becomes kung fu fighting dog with mystical powers and his sidekick cat. But now, PHOOEY would have to wait his turn.
The studio also hired Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove, to write MARVIN THE MARTIAN. Kaplan and Torgove are writing the upcoming CHiPS movie, that’s another one that’s been around for quite some time but no one knows for sure when we’re actually going to see Wilmer Valderrama playing Erik Estrada‘s role on the big screen.
Back to MARVIN, the producers are talking to a number of potential voice stars but one name stands out, Mike Myers. I kid you not. I don’t like this idea because I don’t want to be watching Marvin but hearing Shrek‘s voice.
The plot stays the same, the current plan is to work on the CG visual in 2010 and to release the movie during the holiday season of 2011. No word yet if Marvin will get a Looney Tunes villain or if Bugs Bunny will make a cameo.
