MEN IN BLACK III Production Pushed Back.. Again

A quick recap just to remind you of the unorthodox way of shooting MEN IN BLACK III. This past November, filming for this third installment started in New York, through the week of Christmas. And then the plan was to take almost two months of hiatus and then it would resume in February. Well, looks like it ain’t happenin’ this month..

24 Frames reported that Sony and the film’s producers have pushed back the production date.. again.. due to ongoing script issues. Shooting will resume on March 28th. The reason why I said ‘again’ was because this wasn’t the first delay that MIB III experienced, it was supposed to start shooting in October but it got pushed back to November.

Remember, the story would have agent Jay, Will Smith, go back in time to meet young agent Kay, played by Josh Brolin.
So.. they’ve shot the first part, set in the present with present agent Kay, played by Tommy Lee Jones, but they haven’t shot the second part which is set in 1969

Ya know, everytime I hear production got delayed due to script problems, I always wonder what about the script that’s so messed up that they have to delay the whole thing, what is it about it that’s not ready.
Producer and studio said the reason for the two-month hiatus was seasonal concerns and tax incentives, not creative disagreements.

Sony said this delay will not affect the May 2012 release date.
The script was written by Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) but Sony hired screenwriter Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can) to do a rewrite, specifically on the story’s time travel component.

Will Smith will return as Agent Jay. Tommy Lee Jones is expected to return as Agent Kay.
Josh Brolin will play a young Agent Kay.
Jemaine Clement plays the villain
Nicole Scherzinger plays Jemaine Celement‘s character’s girlfriend, Lilly
Emma Thompson plays the modern MIB Boss
“most of the action is taking place in 1969, with Josh Brolin playing a young Tommy Lee Jones, who will bookend the movie.” So there’s going to be some time travel going on here.
Gemma Arterton will play a secretary in the 1969 MIB
Alec Baldwin will play the 1969 MIB boss
Sharlto Copley will play a fast-talking Yoda type alien.
Sony Pictures said the studio’s intention is to give “a fresh fun twist for fans of the franchise while also introducing the Men in Black to a whole new generation of moviegoers”
Barry Sonnenfeld will once again direct, based on the comic book by Lowell Cunningham. with Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing the project while Steven Spielberg is set to exec produce.
