MGM And WB Want Peter Jackson To Direct THE HOBBIT… Brett Ratner Wants The Job (Don’t Let Him Have It!)

Peter Jackson

Not long after Guillermo Del Toro left THE HOBBIT, the attention was turned to Peter Jackson who may have to step in but the obstacle is that he’s bound by contract to direct the sequel to TINTIN, the first movie was directed by Spielberg and will be released in December 2011. At the same time, Jackson and Fran also feel obligated to do all that’s possible to protect WB/New Line/MGM’s investment in THE HOBBIT. Deadline now says that WB and MGM are pushing for Jackson to direct this 2-part Tolkien adaptation…

WB and MGM are doing all they can to convince Jackson to direct THE HOBBIT, constantly selling him the idea until he gives a definitive NO.

After all, Jackson already co-wrote the scripts for both parts and he’s already producing, plus production is set to start right there in his homeland, New Zealand where his VFX wizard factory resides.. I mean, c’mon Peter, this job practically needs you!
Here’s another reason why they’re dying to have Peter back.. because the other names that want the job may not be as worthy..

The other day, slashfilm heard that David Yates is one of them, but David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) and.. Brett Ratner who gave us X-Men: The Last Stand are interested in directing THE HOBBIT as well.
Ouch… could you imagine THE HOBBIT movies directed by Brett freakin’ Ratner?.. middle earth fans might start a riot out on the streets.

Peter Jackson was also attached to the adaptation of MORTAL ENGINES based on the fantasy novels by Philip Reeve and he also bought the rights to the historic-fantasy Temeraire novels HIS MAJESTY’S DRAGON by Naomi Novik
