The wait is over my AD friends! Our favorite series will hit the big screen and it has been confirmed via Austin movie blog and The Playlist that the show’s creator Mitch Hurwitz will direct the ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT The Movie. All this time he’s been working on the script and… Jason Bateman seems to be one of the few members of the original cast actually excited about the prospect while some Michael Cera aren’t necessarily looking forward to reunion.

Saturday afternoon at the Paramount Theater in Austin Texas during a panel titled THE ART OF STORYTELLING moderated by producer Marcia Nasatir and featuring Mitch Hurtiwz, Ron Howard, and Steve Zaillian, Hurwitz revealed 2 things.. that he’s the director, even though he never directed any of the AD episodes, and an idea he has for the plot…

there would be a heavy jail presence and then made jokes about the inclusion of TARP money, a nod to the inability of a film to be as timely as television due to lag times in production and release

Good ol AD, makes fun of current situation. It feels so awesome to hear something that’s been uncertain for such a long time become more certain than ever. I almost lost my faith. Now the trick is rounding up the whole gang back together again, convincing them that making this movie would finally bring closure to us fans who were upset by how early Fox pulled the plug on the show. Production might start next Spring. Imagine and Fox Searchlight are producing the film. Bateman previously said the movie might arrive in 2011. Ron Howard had said that he’d love to return as the narrator, he proudly said nobody could keep him away from that gig, it’s his… but Howard has so much on his plate lately I just don’t see how he could find the time to lend his voice for AD.
