Morgan Freeman Joins Universal’s OBLIVION Starring Tom Cruise

Deadline reported that the great Morgan Freeman has signed on to co-star in OBLIVION a.k.a HORIZONS a.k.a Universal’s untitled sci-fi pic starring Tom Cruise, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron Legacy).
No word yet on what role Morgan Freeman would play in this film but I’m pretty sure he won’t be playing God…

Starring Tom Cruise, this $100 million sci-fi film opens July 19th, 2013, it will be directed by Joseph Kosinski. You even got to read the first chapter of Levine’s graphic novel online. Oscar winning scribe William Monahan (The Departed) penned the screenplay. Karl Gajdusek rewrote the script and then it got rewritten by Michael Arndt.

Here’s the film’s official plot synopsis..

based on Kosinski’s own Radical Publishing comic book series and takes place in a future where humanity has fallen to an irradiated Earth. Cruise plays Jak, a maintenance drone working on the planet’s surface alongside another worker, Vika. When a woman, Julia, is discovered in a crashed ship, Jak’s whole world is thrown into question and he finds himself strangely drawn towards Julia.

Based on OBLIVION, the 128-page illustrated novel that features prose, combined with over 40 fully painted landscape renderings. OBLIVION is distributed worldwide through Random House.
