Moverman To Rewrite And Direct Kurt Cobain Biopic

Three years ago, Universal acquired the rights to HEAVIER THAN HEAVEN, a biography of Kurt Cobain, written by Charles Cross. The studio got David Benioff (The Kite Runner, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) to write the screenplay for the untitled movie version. Now, according to Risky Business, the studio has hired Oren Moverman to rewrite the script and direct the project…

Scribe Moverman’s directorial debut last year, THE MESSENGER gave him an Oscar nod for Best Original Screenplay, the movie also gave its star Woody Harrelson an Oscar Best Supporting nod. Great drama about angels of death, to soldiers delivering news of fallen soldiers to next of kins.
I’ve visited Cobain’s hometown Aberdeen before but that place didn’t seem to have any kind of monument in remembrance of him at all, unless I didn’t look in the right direction.
Between you and me, as much as I appreciate him perfecting grunge music for suicidal teens to enjoy, this whole thing feels more appropriate as a TV movie on HBO than a big screen treatment. Either way, I wonder which young actress out there is cuckoo enough to play Courtney Love. I think Jared Leto should play Cobain.
