Ever since the excellent sci-fi drama Moon starring Sam Rockwell in his brilliant performance, I decided that I was going to become a faithful follower of director Duncan Jones and definitely can’t wait for whatever he’s got up his sleeves. This past summer, it was said that his next gig is not an adaptation of ESCAPE FROM THE DEEP but another sci-fi titled MUTE which will reunite Jones with Moon producer Stuart Fenegan. The budget this time will be $25 Million compared to $5 Million to make Moon. MUTE has been described as a project in the similar spirit as Blade Runner, a futuristic sci-fi/action/thriller. It’s actually something that Jones has been wanting to make for quite some time, he even talked io9 about how the movie would have a couple of unique villains and how “normal people having to live in this future city… and how they’ve maintained their humanity in these science-fiction settings. Or the opposite, why their humanity starts to be eroded. When they started to lose their humanity because of the world that they live in”
MUTE is about “a woman whose disappearance causes a mystery for her partner, a mute bartender. When she disappears, he has to go up against the city’s gangsters.”

Latinoreview got the first concept art from MUTE via LibertyFilms and I can see how it would have that Blade Runner look to it. I just hope it’s not trying too hard to appear like the Ridley Scott classic.

“[It's] a big future-city-based thriller; very, very different from Moon but hopefully as smart and hopefully, you know, it will be character-focused but it’s — again, like Blade Runner it’s a big film and it’s more action-oriented and I think it could be really good.”
