Comingsoon recently had a lengthy interview with director J.J. Abrams who revealed that he’s not sure if he’ll return to direct STAR TREK 2, he won’t know until the script is done which would take a while, Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof are in charge of the story, you can read the rest OVER THERE. That’s fair enough, I think it’s wise that a director doesn’t jump in or rush in too quickly without thinking things through. For example, all this rumor about Christopher Nolan returning or not returning to do BATMAN 3 but he’s the kind of guy who needs to have a solid story first. Anyways, back to STAR TREK sequel, the same website also heard a rumor that if the project were to happen right now, right this very moment, they got somebody in mind to play the new Khan…

The man they think would be awesome as the new Khan is actor Nestor Carbonell. Those of you may remember him from The Dark Knight, most of us recognize him from one of the greatest series of all time, Lost. He played the character Richard who never ages, what’s up with that anyway?! I try and try to follow the mythology down pat but there are still factors that I don’t understand which keeps me coming back for more of course.
Carbonelli would play a decent Khan, the problem is, Ricardo Montalban played the original (the 1967 Star Trek episode Space Seed and 1982 Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan) in such an iconic manner, it’s almost impossible to imagine somebody else in the role, he set the bar too high.

But take this whole Carbonelli as Khan thing as a rumor for now. Who knows, they might eventually decide not to include Khan in the sequel, which wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Abrams has already introduced us to a new enterprise crew (alternate/parallel universe), he should just introduce us to a whole new set of villains as well.
